What are habits for success?
Habits are some little things you do constantly and usually, they impact your life dramatically. We all have read books titled like “10 Habits that Lead to Success”, “What Habits Rich People Have?”, or “Importance of developing good habits”. So, why people keep emphasizing the significance of good habits? Do they really matter to your life?
Of course they matter. A scientific research shows that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. In other word, by doing something constantly for 3 weeks, there will be a new thing stick to your daily routine. Good news, ad bad news by the same time. It could mean your life will change positively or negatively, depending on what habits they are.
Below are some habits I kept since June and have changed me to a more motivated, determined, and positive person.
1. Always be on time, if possible, be early for 15-30 mins
I used to be the kind of friend who was always late, or the last one when hanging out. It never bothered me and I never considered it as a big issue. However, after times of letting people waiting for me, I found my social life being influenced.
Being late made me find excuses, be in a rush, and feel anxious. I’m tired of it and I realized, being on time is a choice. You choose to show up or you choose to procrastinate until the last minute.
After enforcing the art of being on time, I have the brand new feeling, a positive one. I don’t have to check the time every five second, I don’t have to run to catch the departing bus/subway, I don’ have to sweat and ruin my makeup, and the most important of all, I don’t feel the awkwardness when apologizing to my friend for being late. Instead, I have the casual to walk in a slower pave, observe the people surround me and notice some cool details, or even talk to some interesting strangers who are also waiting.
In order to succeed, daily habits are so important. They determine how people feel about you and as you calculate time accurately, not only do you respect them, but you also respect yourself.
